After six weeks in the Arctic, I fancied a bit of heat and sunshine before returning home, so stopped off en-route for two weeks sea kayaking with my folding boat

Approximate track of the trip, starting and ending in Belize City
My very handily located hotel - right on the river, kayak departing from right outside my room
Looking down Haulover Creek from the hotel - we go that way
Burdon Canal, at the end of Haulover Creek - wider than I'd thought, with a heavy dusting of Mangrove pollen. Deserted though - didn't see a soul for three days
North Lagoon camp - a welcome sight as noon approached ... it's hot out there on the water - Mad Dogs and Englishmen
North Lagoon camp, from the drone. Nice to have a shady deckchair and trestle table to hand. Would've been perfect without the pesky ants
A couple of days' thunderstorms meant it was more expedient to take the easy option for the 12 mile crossing from Dangriga to the reef. My fellow passengers…
Tobacco Caye, where I stayed in one of these over-water cabanas for a couple of nights
Tobacco Caye from above, with a sneaky kayak far left and the sunset bar bottom right. Tough life.
Looking north up the reef - tricky to get lost, just keep paddling for 60 miles thataway
